The chapter explores strategies for adapting to and mitigating climate change, focusing on Africa and Europe. As global warming, driven by human-made emissions, accelerates, the urgency of achieving net-zero emissions increases. Although efforts to limit global warming continue, temperatures are expected to rise more than 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels. Africa is particularly vulnerable, requiring tailored adaptation measures. This introduction summarizes the contributions to the chapter, including case studies from South Africa (Okwudili), Germany (Öztürk), and a Tanzania-Germany cooperation (Gewiese). These examples—covering South Africa’s national strategies, Germany’s heat action plans, and a successful Tanzanian-German municipal partnership—offer practical solutions and highlight the potential for global cooperation in addressing climate challenges and promoting sustainable development.
