This chapter centers on the integration of behavioral health within residency training programs, with a particular emphasis on primary care pediatrics. It offers a discussion on integrated behavioral health within the broader context of graduate medical education, acknowledging that IBH is present in only a small minority of primary care training programs. Additionally, the chapter provides a brief overview of the utilization of integrated behavioral health services, including a review of the models implemented in these settings. We explore how integrated behavioral health (IBH) can be incorporated into residency training programs, taking into account the unique coordination of care required by resident physicians and their supervisors. The major participants in this model include medical students, resident physicians, supervising physicians, and ancillary staff working with behavioral health clinicians. We specifically highlight the role of psychology interns or fellows as key contributors to these services. Additionally, we delve into the necessary awareness and educational interventions required to orient both training and supervising physicians on the effective utilization of these services. We also discuss key considerations for establishing IBH in residency clinics, which may vary from community practices. Lastly, we explore the benefits, challenges, and opportunities of integrating IBH services within various training environments, highlighting their impact on both patient care and medical education.
