摘要

Among the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques for the documentation of artworks, presented in this handbook, is acoustic microscopy, used the last years [?] for the acquisition of cross section (depth profile) information from the paint layers of artworks. The idea is: A source/receiver, consisted of a focused piezoelectric crystal, is placed at a height of several hundreds of \(\upmu \) m above the surface of the artwork. The source emits an exponentially attenuating sine pulse of high frequency (hundreds of MHz).
