Learning and Intellectual Developmental Disorders
摘要
Learning and intellectual disorders occur frequently in children, with total neurodevelopmental disorder prevalence estimated at 15% in the US. Early intervention can be aided by recognition of subtle signs and symptoms. Youth with intellectual disorders are at higher risk for both acute and chronic somatic disease, but impaired interoception and communication may pose risk for delayed diagnosis. Likewise, a preponderance of youth with one neurodevelopmental disorder will have another co-occurring developmental or mental health disorder. Clear differentiation and appropriate management of the intersection of these comorbidities is vital for these youth to meet their potential.
