Firearms are now the leading cause of death in children. 40% of children live in a household with firearms. With both firearms access and injuries continuing to rise, it is no longer a safe assumption that school-aged children are not personally affected by firearm violence. Schools are increasingly faced with the challenge of confronting firearm-related issues. This chapter aims to guide discussing firearm safety and lethal means counseling for at-risk students in the school setting.
