Gastrostomy tubes (G tubes) are a frequently used medical device encountered in the school setting. These tubes may provide a variety of assistance for children including providing nutrition, fluids, and medications. While G tubes are simple devices, there can be complications for school-based providers to be aware of. In this chapter, we discuss the types of G tubes, placement of G tubes, and a patient case to highlight some complications that school-based providers may encounter. We also highlight some research and advancements to further assist the care of children requiring G tubes.
