Abdominal Pain
摘要
Abdominal pain in children is a common complaint leading to school nurse visits. The wide breadth of potential etiologies causing abdominal pain, ranging from benign conditions such as constipation to emergent issues like appendicitis, testicular or ovarian torsion, or significant intra-abdominal trauma, necessitates keeping a broad differential diagnosis. While many times the pain will resolve with time and supportive care, many causes require emergent and surgical intervention. Ensuring a timely diagnosis is critical in achieving optimal outcomes for the patient. This chapter will look at six cases of children with abdominal pain to better understand which presentations are indicative of emergencies.
