Overuse injuries are common in school-age and college athletes. This population is at particular risk for overuse as one-sport specialization has become more common and over-training frequently occurs. Overuse injuries are often insidious in onset, progressing slowly over weeks to months, making diagnosis difficult. Management of most overuse injuries is a period of rest, but we discuss specific high-risk injuries which should be referred for further imaging or even surgical management.
