Thyroid cancer is a malignancy arising from the parenchymal cells of the thyroid. Thyroid cancers are common, and the incidence of thyroid cancer is steadily increasing. Thyroid cancers are classified as differentiated (DTC), which includes papillary, follicular, and Hurthle cell carcinomas, medullary (MTC), or anaplastic/poorly differentiated. The clinical behavior of thyroid cancer is highly variable, ranging from indolent, slowly progressive tumors to highly aggressive ones with increased mortality rates. Workup generally includes labs, imaging, and biopsy. Surgeries performed for thyroid cancer include lobectomy, total thyroidectomy, and cervical lymph node dissection. Though overall rare, the most common complications include recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, hypocalcemia, and neck hematoma. After surgery, patients are followed closely at regular intervals with neck ultrasounds and lab studies. While the prognosis of thyroid cancer varies greatly depending on the type, its extent, and patient factors, it is generally good, with up to 95% 5-year survival rate
