Colorectal cancer frequently metastasizes to the liver, affecting about 45% of patients. Colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) is categorized as resectable or unresectable based on extent and location of the disease. Resection is the standard of care, in combination with adjuvant and/or neoadjuvant chemotherapy and other modalities. A subset of unresectable cases may be eligible for “conversion therapy,” in which chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or locoregional therapy can be employed to downstage the tumor burden such that surgical resection is feasible. For patients with unresectable CRLM, palliative therapies are given. Patients with CRLM should have their care tailored in a multidisciplinary fashion.
