Bicycle Development and Technology
摘要
The story of bicycle is over two centuries old and begins with Karl von Drais’ velocipede “running machine”. To gain an appreciation of why the bicycle was born and its design progression, the priorities of energy efficiency, engineering design and biomechanics should be followed. The form of bicycle that we use today was devised after 100 years of development, and its form has remained to this present day (even though the geometry of the latest frames may not follow the standard diamond structure, the human interface remains the same). The saddle, pedals and handle bars continue to remain in the same place, while changes to the wheelbase, fork rake and trail have allowed bicycles to be more adapted to specific activities.
