This chapter concludes the book. We argue that there are three distinct upward academic mobility routes for migrated academics of diverse backgrounds in Japan. We also argue that individual social networks stretched along migrated academics’ life trajectories, mobility spaces, and migrated localities play a vital role in individual capital accumulation, habitus development, and upward academic mobility. The upward academic mobility of migrated academics transnationally is subject to the linguistic, racial, and ideological structures of the host university and society in Japan and those of the homeland and macro global fields. Despite facing many challenges, the lived experience of our participants demonstrates that Japanese higher education has the merits and potential to attract, nurture, and retain migrated academics. Based on the lived experience of our participants and our analysis, we conclude the chapter by offering implications to practice and policy concerning transnational academic mobility and relevant issues of IoHE, national building and development, migration and citizenship governance, and knowledge diplomacy.
