This article presents the results of a study of artifacts made from equine second (middle) phalanges found at the settlement of Podymalovo-1 in the Bashkir Cis-Urals. The site is confidently dated to the middle and second half of the 14th century CE. The studied sample collection includes seven objects (5 and 2 items discovered at the excavations in 2022 and 2019, accordingly). From the perspective of settlement layout, all of them are related to production and household complexes. Until recently, such findings have not been the subject of separate studies from the perspective of the use-wear analysis. Existing interpretations of materials from archeological sites of the Golden Horde period located in adjacent territories refer to such objects as tools used for leather production (processing of hides/leather). The study of the collected phalanges from the settlement of Podymalovo-1 was carried out in accordance with the methodology of the use-wear analysis. The study was conducted using an MBS-9 stereoscopic microscope and an Altami MET 6T metallographic microscope. We examined that most phalanges have a similar set of traces of processing and use. We concluded that these items belong to the category of tools associated with ceramic production. Experiment data were used to verify the conclusions.
