This paper presents the results of a multidisciplinary analysis of a stone tool from surface collections at the Novonikolaevka copper mine in the Southern Trans-Urals. The artifact is subrectangular in shape and weigh 0.6 kg. One of its sides is flattened; both ends are deformed in antiquity. A side with traces of wear is subrectangular in shape, while the other is trapezoidal. Such artifacts are a widely used category of the Late Bronze Age mining tools. They are often found in the materials of ancient mining sites and settlements within the Eurasian metallurgical province. Similar items have been identified in the literature as small hammers. The studied artifact is a isolated example from the collection of the Novonikolaevka mine, whose function as a percussion tool was determined by use-wear analysis. The compositions and sources of the raw materials were determined by petrographic and XRF analyses. It can be suggested that the tool was used in the primary enrichment process (crushing of large fractions) at the site. Complex analyses of artifacts helped obtain new information on the mining technologies of early metallurgists in the Southern Trans-Urals.
