Computed Tomography Angiography in Bicuspid Aortic Valve

Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital heart disease, affecting 0.5–2% of the adult population and frequently associated with aortic valvular dysfunction and aortopathy. As a spectrum of structural and pathological abnormalities, BAV poses unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) has emerged as a crucial tool for evaluating BAV morphology, quantifying valve dysfunction, assessing associated aortic dilatation, and guiding surgical or transcatheter interventions such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). This chapter reviews the role of CTA in diagnosing and managing BAV, emphasizing its technical considerations, classification systems, functional assessment, aortopathy evaluation, and specific considerations for TAVI in this unique patient population. Key anatomical and procedural aspects are highlighted to optimize patient outcomes.
