In the current digital age, it is imperative for pre-university education to evolve and improve students’ critical thinking and teamwork capabilities, while also nurturing their social skills. Instead of merely focusing on knowledge transmission, education should strive to empower students to be more effective and well-prepared for the future. This paper analyses pre-university school student’ choices of different types of mathematics, exploring how factors such as gender, parents’ profession and previous academic performance in specific areas can influence the future choice about her/his university path. By comparing data from two schools in different contexts and municipalities, using different techniques of machine learning, one result is that certain areas of Mathematics are influenced by gender. However, there are more factors influencing the future course choice of the students.
