Distractions in the healthcare setting have the potential to compromise patient care and increase the risk of errors. In a perfect world, the hospital setting would be calm and quiet to allow for both a restful environment for the patient and limited disturbances for the healthcare team. In reality, the hospital setting is busy, chaotic, and noisy. As technology has advanced and equipment has been added, the environment of the hospital has become busier and noisier [1]. These factors alone can intrude into the daily activities of the team and create an environment where mistakes can occur. In highly technical areas, such as the OR and the ICU, these risks are compounded due to the inherent distractions that occur. Minimizing these distractions and interruptions has always been a challenge. However, considering the growing presence of technology, the ability to control for these has become increasingly difficult.
