Uncertainty quantification is an interdisciplinary field focused on characterizing uncertainty in many different applications of scientific modeling. Statistical thinking and statistical methodology play an integral role in uncertainty quantification. While the statistical foundations of uncertainty quantification are quite broad, this chapter focuses on statistical approaches to uncertainty quantification in climate science, specifically on the design and analysis of computer models and the analysis of climate model ensembles.
