Bipolar affective disorder is a complex psychiatric condition characterized by mood swings between manic and depressive episodes. Neurostimulation techniques, including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), and emerging approaches, have emerged as promising interventions for managing bipolar disorder symptoms. This chapter reviews the clinical efficacy of these interventions, their safety profile, and their role in the comprehensive treatment of bipolar affective disorder. Furthermore, the chapter discusses current research trends, challenges, and future directions in utilizing neurostimulation and ECT as adjunctive or alternative treatments for bipolar affective disorder.
