Mandibular third molar extraction can cause paresthesia by intraoperative damage to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN). The risk of paresthesia increases when the mandibular canal (MC) and the root are close or contact directly (Kipp et al. 1980; Monaco et al. 2004). Therefore, it is very important to evaluate both the position and relationship between the mandibular third molar and the MC accurately before operation.
