This chapter introduces the development of fertilizer recommendation systemFertilizer recommendation system of Korea from the 1960s to the present. Initially, fertilizer uses standards focused on improving crop productivityCrop productivity by evaluating regional soil nutrient levels. However, environmental concerns shifted the focus to minimizing fertilizer overuse from 1990s. Fertilizer recommendation program of PC ver. has been developed from 1991, and this program is provided to user through the web site of the Korea Soil Information System (KSIS: Heug-to-ram) from 2008. Notably, fertilizer recommendationFertilizer recommendation is expanded to 226 crops by 2020 to ensure that farmers participating in the public direct payment system use an appropriated amount of fertilizer. Enhanced by digital tools since 2008, the system now integrates soil testing and mapping, streamlining recommendations to ensure sustainable agricultural practicesAgricultural practice(s). By 2025, fertilizer recommendation standards are expected for 246 crops, underscoring ongoing efforts for comprehensive nutrient management.
