The claim that Erasmus did not have anything against living Jews and actual Judaism is discussed and refuted. Erasmus was worried because Italy was, allegedly, full of (living) Jews and SpainSpain was not empty of (living) Jews, as it should have been after their expulsion from the country. The Jewish plague seemed to be rearing its ugly head, according to Erasmus. He acknowledged the expulsion of the Jews from medieval FranceFrance. There is no explicit call by Erasmus to expel Jews, but there is an ideological acceptance of expulsion as a realization of the ideal of Christian concordia in its exclusive meaning.
