This chapter reviews the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in job sequencing and scheduling. First, existing AI technologies are briefly categorized. Although symbolic AI has a wider application in job scheduling, data-driven AI is also suitable in this field. Subsequently, some advanced AI technologies, such as AI 2.0 and generative AI, are also considered to have the potential to address job scheduling needs. Therefore, some applications of AI in job sequencing and scheduling are reviewed. A procedure is also established to apply AI technologies to job sequencing and scheduling. AI technologies can be applied to facilitate several steps of job scheduling, and the performances achieved by these AI technologies often far exceed human capabilities. Afterward, the applications of some AI technologies in job sequencing and scheduling are given, including artificial neural network (ANN), simulation, digital twin, genetic algorithm (GA), Industry 4.0, fuzzy logic, ant colony optimization (ACO), etc. Based on these applications, the problems faced when applying AI technologies to job sequencing and scheduling are discussed. Finally, the possible application of generative AI in job sequencing and scheduling is put forth.
