In this paper, we present a new visualization metaphor for visualization of software evolution using the metaphor of a physical library. We investigate the potential of such visualization in an immersive VR and desktop environment and evaluate the user experience, usability, and effectiveness compared to traditional tools. We tested our proposed solution with 15 participants with different levels of experience with VR technologies, measuring task completion time, and evaluated the solution using the SSQ and IPQ questionnaires. The results showed that most of the participants were satisfied with the visualization and its capabilities. The virtual reality version had overall slightly slower task completion times than the other solutions, but still had the best satisfaction rating.
