Building Adaptive and Resilient Community to Climate Change Through Micro Watershed Management Strategies to Support the Achievement of Village SDGs

This chapter explores the importance of building adaptive and resilient communities to climate change at the micro-scale through watershed management strategies. With a focus on supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the village level, this study investigates the role of micro watershed management in increasing community resilience and adaptive capacity. By integrating climate change adaptation measures with SDGs targets, micro-watershed management emerges as a holistic approach to address interrelated challenges regarding environmental sustainability, poverty alleviation, and community welfare. Based on the author's experience and a comprehensive literature review, this chapter describes the main principles and strategies for effective micro watershed management to support the achievement of climate resilience and village SDGs. This chapter underscores the importance of empowering local communities, fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships, and mainstreaming climate resilience practices into policy and planning processes. These three aspects are important in building adaptive and resilient communities to achieve the SDGs at the village level in facing the uncertainty of climate change. Based on a technical perspective, this chapter reviews the importance of a socio-technical approach in sustainable natural resource management practices, diversifying livelihoods and strengthening the rural economy, developing climate-resilience infrastructure, and enhancing mechanisms for reducing disaster risks due to climate change at the village and micro watershed levels.
