Soft tissue point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) can be diagnostic, procedural, or both. When clinicians face clinical uncertainty with soft tissue findings from history and physical examination alone, such as a patient with pain, redness, palpable masses, or skin changes, POCUS is a valuable imaging method. Soft tissue POCUS encompasses the evaluation of superficial structures, such as skin, subcutaneous tissue, fascia, muscle, and fat, as well as surrounding structures such as vasculature, nerves, ligaments, tendons, lymph nodes, and nails. In this chapter, we discuss POCUS for the evaluation and diagnosis of cellulitis, abscess, necrotizing fasciitis, foreign bodies, lymph nodes, lipomas, cysts, and nail changes relevant to both acute care and general clinical practices.
