While thyroid imaging has historically been performed within comprehensive diagnostic radiology, there is increasing utilization of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for evaluation of the thyroid, as well as for many other head and neck assessments, including the upper airway structures, peritonsillar and tonsillar structures, and lymph nodes. This chapter reviews key imaging approaches to different anatomical structures in the head and neck as well as critical pathophysiology that might be seen while imaging these structures. Topics covered in this chapter include epiglottitis, angioedema, vocal cord dysfunction, sialolithiasis, parotitis, peritonsillar abscess, sinusitis, thyroid disorders, thyroid cysts, thyroglossal duct and branchial cleft cysts, lymphadenitis, lymphadenopathy, and airway management.
