This article investigates the possibility of non-trivial changes in presuppositions, despite possible expectations to the contrary. Furthermore it argues for the existence of cycles or cyclicity effects in the domain of presuppositions, by considering iteratives, additives and other triggers. Ultimately, a tension between an economical signal and the axiomatic/empirically observed necessity to mark presuppositions is suggested, including a diachronic version of Heim’s principle of Maximize Presupposition.
