Harmony in the Workplace: Human- Robot Collaboration and Tuning Employees’ Perceptions and Emotions Through HRM Practices

ThisTuning chapter examines the phenomenon of human-robotRobots collaboration and the role of human resource practices in fostering positive working environmentWorking environments among employees. A review of the extant literature on human resource management (HRM) andHuman-robot human-robotRobots interactionInteraction /collaboration revealed a paucity of research in this area. This chapter, which is constructed based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAMTechnology acceptance model (TAM)), aims to identify the mechanisms that underpinHuman-robot human-robotRobots interactionInteraction when HRM practicesHRM practices are in place. A review of the literature revealed two key HRM strategies to be critical: re-skilling employees for new technological demands and fostering an inclusive, interactive work environment between humans and robotsRobots. The findings of previous studies indicate that to alleviate the negative perceptionsPerceptions of employees, human resources (HR) professionals should adopt more individualised practices where emotional factors and perceived competence are critical. The positive emotionsEmotions that employees experience towards the use of technology have been found to enhance their perceptionPerceptions of its usefulness. Conversely, the perceptionPerceptions of deficiencies can lead to feelings of anxiety and a subsequent decrease in performance. In light of the practices of leading companies in business, it is imperative to address the talent gap as a priority.
