Despite being important trading partners, Asian countries have not served as key sources of foreign direct investment in Oman. The level of asset allocation of the country’s sovereign wealth fund, the Oman Investment Authority (OIA), in Asian markets is minor. Curiously, there is one visible dimension of the OIA’s investment activities that displays an outsized role for Asian investment partners: joint ventures. Of the eight official joint ventures listed on the OIA’s website, six are partnerships with Asian countries: Pakistan, Vietnam, Brunei, Uzbekistan, India, and China. This chapter uses Oman’s sovereign wealth fund and its joint ventures as an analytical lens to better understand specific manifestations of investment partnerships as well as broad dimensions of Oman-Asia economic relations.

摘要
