Carrie Gracie WS China Reporter, NCA China reporter, China Correspondent and China Editor
摘要
Carrie Gracie’s BBC career has focused on China from the start to the finish. Over the years she has been a Beijing-based reporter, correspondent, bureau chief and editor. Her career began in the World Service newsroom before she was sent out to Beijing in 1991. She returned to London when one of her children became seriously ill and during this period Carrie did programme presenting for radio and television, while continuing to produce long-form documentaries charting China’s changing society and industrial growth. Eventually she returned as China Editor operating jointly out of London and Beijing. In 2017 she discovered that she was being paid substantially less than the male North America Editor, and she then began a campaign for equal pay for equal work. She gave evidence to parliament and took her case to the courts where she won substantial damages. Her work in this area has led to the BBC “correcting” many women journalists’ salaries.
