Shaimaa Khalil Tokyo Correspondent (Previously Islamabad and Sydney Correspondent)

Shaimaa Khalil grew up in EgyptEgypt and began her career working as an announcer for an English-speaking music station in Qatar. At the radio station she met her husband and together they moved to London, where he worked at the World Service and she undertook a master’s in journalism and then joined the World Service upon finishing her course. Shaimaa has made the most of every opportunity to learn the skills of reporting for radio and television. She got her first big break working as a producerProducers in Cairo during the Arab SpringArab Spring. Instead of taking the obvious path to becoming an Arabic language reporter based in the Middle East, she chose a radio presenting role in English which got her noticed by BBC management. She then went on to become the Pakistan correspondent, followed by correspondent roles in Australia and Japan where she currently resides.
