The great development experienced in the last 20 years by digital computing systems, such as microprocessors (μPs) and digital signal processors (DSPs), resulted in the creation of new, sophisticated techniques of industrial control. So, at the moment, in all sectors of industry, from the simplest production process (such as the movement of a conveyor belt or the control of a voltage load) to the complex application of remote centralized control and monitoring of all individual processes of production, the use of digital systems is very broad. In addition to general-purpose microprocessors, new powerful computing units are constantly appearing on the market, with features tailored to each specific industrial application. The great flexibility of digital systems, the great possibilities they offer for modern control application techniques, and their relatively low cost, which is constantly decreasing, have now established digital technology as an integral part of industrial applications.

摘要
