In recent years, the need to reduce the environmental pollution emissions has become increasingly urgent, much of which undoubtedly comes from Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) in the transport sector. Figure 11.1 shows the distribution of CO2 emissions by sectors in the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries where the large share of transport (30%) in global environmental pollution is noted.
