Systemic Counselling as a Central Approach to Deradicalisation

This chapter presents systemic counselling as a holistic framework that fosters fresh perspectives and actionable solutions by integrating interrelated principles, attitudes, theories, and methods. Centering on principles and theories tailored to deradicalisation work, it clarifies systemic counselling’s foundational tenets and the guiding values that inform practitioner conduct. Bronfenbrenner’s ecosystemic model is introduced and translated into concrete guidance for engaging with radicalised clients, while a concluding synthesis weaves these concepts together, highlighting their practical value for counsellors confronting ideological opposition and extremism.
