The Issues for Asylum Seekers DURING the Covid-19 Pandemic
摘要
There has been very literature written or research undertaken as to the impact the pandemic had on asylum seekers and refugees obtaining assistance and support during Covid-19. As a marginalised group, they found themselves outside the usual protection support afforded to them by governments as a direct response to the pandemic. This chapter focusses exclusively on the impact the pandemic had on asylum seekers and refugees. It considers the government response to the pandemic which implemented a policy of housing migrants in temporary accommodation and the physical and mental health impacts on them. The chapter discusses the important role staff and volunteers played during this period to keep supporting asylum seekers and the methods of how they achieved this whilst asylum seekers waited to hear about their asylum claims from the Home Office.
