Historical Prerequisites for the Development of Nanotechnologies in Chemistry, Nineteenth to Twentieth Century

Nanochemistry is a branch of chemistry that studies the properties, structure, and characteristics of chemical transformations of nanoparticles. A feature of objects studied in nanochemistry is the presence of a size effect—a qualitative change in their physicochemical properties and reactivity. Nanochemistry as a field of knowledge in recent years has become one of the most important and popular. We will review the historical formation and development of nanochemistry at Kazan University in our study and the history of the development of Kazan School of Organic Chemistry from its formation to the present day. It was the chemists of Kazan University, which began in the 1970s–1980s of the twentieth century to study solvation effects in cycloaddition reactions, which gave impetus to the creation of a whole direction at Kazan School of Chemistry aimed to study the thermodynamics of solvation and intermolecular interactions of organic compounds in nonaqueous solvents and their influence on reactivity. In a very short historical period (slightly more than 20 years), a school of supramolecular chemistry recognized in the world scientific community has been formed in Kazan.
