In this chapter, we examine the theoretical proposal of a part of Catholic Traditionalism and some of its influences in the production of authoritarian thought in Chile. For this purpose, we have chosen the works of Plínio Corrêa de Oliveira and Osvaldo Lira Pérez and some related works because of their relevance in certain groups of the Chilean right-wing before and after the coup, especially through Jaime Guzmán Errázuriz. The most important part of our work is the analytical proposal. Then, we will show how the notion of crisis, of catastrophe, worked in the traditionalist discourse of the 1960s to produce fear and hence superstition and how it parallels some right-wing discourses today. To this end, we will look at the authoritarian formation through the prism of Marilena Chaui. Therefore, we are interested in how the counter-revolutionary idea appears and works in this period and works, and how it leads to a theologization of politics through certain works and actions. It also allows us to reflect on the current resurgence of authoritarianism in important sectors of society. In short, we hypothesize that Catholic Traditionalism achieves a theologization of political discourse and lays the foundations for an authoritarian society.
