Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is characterized by an oral burning sensation and discomfort with no etiologic cause identified. Besides, its pathophysiology is not comprehended. However, a neuropathic etiology is favored. Therefore, there are no universally accepted guidelines for managing BMS, and only treatments to symptoms relief are available. The use of photobiomodulation in the BMS treatment has progressively increased due to the positive results described by patients and because it is a noninvasive method with no reported adverse effects.
