Remote Sensing Phenology as a Tool for Monitoring the Impact of Drought on Forest Ecosystem Productivity in Temperate Forests of South America

Drought’s impact on temperate forests’ primary productivity is a well-established phenomenon. Monitoring changes in ecosystem phenology is paramount for understanding drought’s effects on these forests. To this end, various remote sensing metrics have been developed to track vegetation changes and phenology. In this chapter, we present a selection of these metrics and their applications in monitoring changes in two temperate forests of Chile. Overall, our findings highlight the utility of remote sensing phenology as a tool for accurately assessing the impact of drought on forest ecosystem productivity.
