Around the world, scientists and researchers are dedicating their efforts towards developing alternative energy sources in response to the global energy crisis. One of the most promising avenues is using biomass primary materials rich in hydrogen and carbon to produce value-added products through various thermochemical and biochemical processes. Biocrude refinement is a process that results in the co-generation of hydrochar and biochar via biomass pyrolysis. A recent study has analyzed the scientific research on these co-products that are obtained from biocrude biorefinery through a bibliometric analysis. The study period covers the years from 2000 to 2024, and only documents written in English were included in the analysis. Specific document types were excluded, resulting in 1144 articles, including 35 reviews and 30 conference articles. The year 2022 saw the highest production of articles, with 254 papers published. Among all the countries, China, the United States, and Germany lead in publications with 648, 122, and 81 documents, respectively. The study also analyzed various specifications, partnerships, and co-authorship. The Chinese Academy of Sciences was the most prolific publisher, with 66 published works. The study identified several emerging areas of research, with “Engineering” (444 documents), “Ecology of Environmental Sciences” (428 documents), and “Energy Fuels” (368 documents) being the most prominent. This study provides a deeper understanding of the scientific research landscape and helps us predict future trends in this field.
