The second Just War condition is: all other means of putting an end to it must have been shown to be impractical or ineffective. Why is it so important to make sure all other options have been investigated first before embarking on a particular solution path? Technology is addictive, the common attitude is always one cannot put the ‘genie’ back in the bottle. We are not trying to prevent technology as a solution by asking this question; our goal is to foster ‘just’ technology. This might require us getting over the concern that alternative solutions are a threat to our expertise. As we look at alternatives, our technical solutions may be improved by the challenges and opportunities that come from seeing other approaches. The result might be a hybrid solution that combines the best of non-technical and technical solutions.
