It is now time for us to be explicit about why we are proposing a new look at technology-based solutions. Several writers have discussed the changing nature of the human-nature relationship. In early history technology was often, and still is, used to augment nature. We built tools to make us stronger and safer. Then a time came when we started viewing technology as something we can use to control nature. There is no clear distinction between these and previous times but today our push to control nature is stronger.
