Tertiary Teacher Burnout
摘要
Teacher burnout consists of emotional exhaustion, lack of motivation and negative attitudes toward others in addition to a lack of self-achievement. This feeling can result from a number of factors such as lack of administration and collegial support, need for professional development, challenges of dealing with difficult students or sometimes parents in addition to others. This study reports on the views of teachers on the reasons for teacher burnout. Connections between teachers’ experiences, gender and type of contract (full time or part time) will also be explored to understand the effect of the teaching environment on teachers’ burnout and, consequently, teacher attrition. Recommendations will be discussed to cope with teacher burnout with the aim of suggesting solutions to the problem based on teachers’ views.
