It turned out that there was little for us to do in the Háldijávri hut except for being, thinking, talking and observing our confined little world. This book largely derives from those conversations and from the experiences that preceded them. We have attempted to document, through an ethnographic approach encompassing both “fielding the field” and “fielding the mind”, human-landscape relations in the context of archaeological fieldwork in a remote Arctic environment that is entangled with diverse historical and contemporary imageries and imaginaries.
