The following essay aims to link two concepts—rococo and materialismmaterialism—which seem to come from two different orders. Probably the most intuitive way of conjoining rococo and materialism would be based on historical materialismhistorical materialism: to treat style (the rococo) as a product of socio-historical (material) factors.
