This chapter focuses on translations of communal homing. I have framed communal homing conceptually in section “ Framing a Translative Lens on Home in Asylum Reception ” in Chap. 2 . At this point, I provide ethnographic insights into communal quotidian practices in asylum reception. This way of homing is based on people coming together and engaging with each other in “dense moments.” First, I look into a commensality of a Syrian family evocating distinct exilic realities between family members, their means and possibilities of fleeing together. Second, the chapter discusses the passing commensalities of Pakistani companions in a situation of rejected asylum applications and depressing outlooks. Third, the chapter addresses family keeping through digital homing and transnational parcels in the case of a Syrian family in protracted division by a European border closure. Fourth, the chapter treats reunification events after years of separation. These “strange homecomings” involve ambivalences of joy but also alienation in the face of hopeful yet uncertain arrival in yet another exile.
