This study exploresExploring the cultural vitalityCultural vitality of the municipalityMunicipality of Benito Juarez, in Mexico CityMexico City, cultural vitalityCultural vitality is the active presence of craftspeople and other artists, as well as cultural organizations and activities, that enrich and diversify the cultureCulture of a communityCommunities and promote citizen participation in their communityCommunities. We analyze the cultural infrastructureCultural infrastructure (“first space”) and cultural activitiesCultural activities (“second space”) of this municipalityMunicipality during 2019 and 2020. We then evaluate these spaces according to the indicators of UNESCO’sAgenda 21 Agenda 21 for cultureCulture as well as municipal sustainability indicatorsSustainability indicators proposed by variousHigher education higher education institutionsHigher education institutions and research centers to identify a “third spaceThird space” that allows for “creative placemakingCreative placemaking,” by which cultural transversalityTransversality promotes long-lasting socialSocial changeLong-lasting social change and revitalizes physical and socialSocial environments, thereby contributing to individual and communityCommunities development. This municipalityMunicipality was found to have a high level of cultural vitalityCultural vitality. Finally, we present several proposals for post-pandemic cultural reactivationCultural reactivation of this municipalityMunicipality which would positively impact all three spaces.
