Although innovative measures have been taken, Sri Lanka faces many challenges in managing single-use plastic (SUP) waste. This chapter showcases three noteworthy initiatives. The first case showcases an innovative model introduced by a local government authority to improve segregated SUP collection. The second case elaborates how the collected SUP waste is treated innovatively through a state-of-the-art initiative by a large-scale company. The third case study considers a small-scale social enterprise which manufactures stationery items from non-recyclable plastic packaging materials. The chapter also presents the challenges faced, lessons learned, and the way forward towards achieving sustainable plastic waste management.
