As business and finance become increasingly global, a major language like Arabic gains relevance in the field. Furthermore, AI-powered systems are gaining relevance in cross-cultural communication through translation. This study examines how AI systems (Gemini and ChatGPT) and machine translation (Google Translate) handle acronyms and abbreviations in business and finance. A corpus of 70 business and finance acronyms and abbreviations from various sources was analyzed based on translation strategy. The results indicated that all three systems could provide acceptable renditions through borrowing alone and translation alone using common terms (unpacking). Google Translate was the only tool that used the strategy of “translation + acronym.” In a few cases, ChatGPT and Gemini employed the strategy of “translation using less frequently employed terms.” All the previously mentioned tools showed some cases of mistranslation, with Google Translate being the highest, followed by ChatGPT and Gemini, respectively. The study recommends further research on AI-powered translations in some other fields.

摘要
